| ITEM #14DSA PURPLE AND BLACK SILK DRESS (worn during pregnancy?) (c. 186065) : HOLD : Description: This stunning handsewn dress of black silk with purple stripes has been enlarged by removing the 4 darts in the bodice front and adding an extra strip of fabric under each arm at the side seam. There is no shape at all to the front of the bodice, and one has to wonder whether the dress was 'reshaped' to be worn during a pregnancy. The bodice has large, wide bishop sleeves with turnedup halfcuffs and a deep cap at the shoulder. Both cap and cuffs are trimmed with black silkcovered buttons and there are buttons decorating the lower half of the sleeves. Bodice closes in front with hooks and eyes, and is lined with medium brown polished cotton and sleeves are lined with dark brown polished cotton. The very full skirt is 42½" long and 166" in circumference.Condition: The only damage to this beautiful dress are several small holes in the back of the lining of the bodice. Otherwise, this dress is in very good condition. |
